WICKING FOR OIL BURNING "WICKLESS" STOVES & RANGES

The old "wickless" oil stoves from the 1920's through the 1950's did in fact use a wick - an asbestos, edge burning wick. Different heights and lengths of asbestos wicking were used by various stoves depending upon the size of the burner. A person could walk into a hardware store anywhere, buy a box of asbestos roll wicking of the right height and 5 ½ feet long, and cut the length of wick they needed off the roll.  Product liability lawyers did away with asbestos wicking years ago.

I  have replacement wicking in stock that is high quality, specially woven fiberglass with copper reinforcing wire.   Each roll is 5 1/2 feet of wicking.

All "wickless" oil stoves and ranges will have vastly cleaner burning characteristics and longer wick life if nothing but Low Odor Mineral Spirits are used in them.

The following wick guide came from a box of Flamemaster Asbestos Wicking, "For Oil Burning Stoves and Ranges, Combination Circulating Heaters," date unknown (but before 1955), manufactured by "Atlas Asbestos Company, North Wales, Penna, U.S.A."
