NOTE:  Aladdin heaters often had a letter designation (such as "U") following a model number, which indicates a minor visual change - they take the same wick.

Photo of wicks #37 and #37A

Aladdin used a wide variety of wick models, often different styles of clips or pins for the same model heater made in different countries - or simply a color change in a heater!  This can be very confusing to people trying to locate a wick for their Aladdin heater.

Note at left the difference between the clip on wick #37 and the pin or button on wick #37A.  Only by an examination of your existing wick can you determine the correct wick for your particular heater.  If you have questions, ask me.

The photos above are only for illustrating the difference between the clips and the pins or "buttons."  The wicks are upside down in the photo, and the cotton "tails" on the wicks are tucked up inside the wick.  The wicks are 3" in diameter.  The button on wick #37A is 2 3/4" from the top of the wick.  Overall length of #37A is 7 3/4".  For installation instructions, please see comments below, and click on this link -  ALADDIN BLUE FLAME HEATER OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS.

Aladdin S181U "Tropic" Heater

Aladdin made some very nice and unique heaters. The photo at left is one of my Aladdin Tropic heaters.  This is a radiant heater with a unique twist - the catalytic converter has a steel sleeve rather than a glass chimney, and the fuel tank is a bottom tank as on a convection heater.  At only 12 x 18" and a 7,800 Btu output, the Tropic is an ideal heater for small cabins, upstairs bedrooms, travel trailers or motor homes.  Being all metal and with no insulation plates under the top, it can be use for cooking in an emergency.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALADDIN WICK #37

Take out the flame spreader and remove the burner basket by turning anti-clockwise.  Turn the wick up until the cog is free and then pull the wick and carrier out of the tank.  Disengage the teeth on either side of the wick by pressing the top of the wick above the teeth and draw the old wick out of the carrier.

Always handle a new wick so that you do not damage the top edge.  Holding the carrier in one hand with the flanged end at the top, and the new wick in the other, insert the tails through the top of the wick carrier until the two teeth on each side of the wick are immediately above the slots on either side of the carrier.  Gently squeeze the wick above the teeth and ease it down so that the lower teeth engage in the bottom slots and the upper teeth in the top slots.  The ends of the wick tails should now be 1/2" below the bottom of the carrier.  Grasp the ends of the tails together with the bottom of the carrier and gently draw the assembly over the center tube of the tank until the bottom of the wick tails are level with the top of the tank.  Hold the wick carrier firmly with one hand then carefully pull the top of the wick up so that both sets of teeth engage in the upper slots.  Line up the rack on the wick carrier with the winder cog and gently push the assembly down until the rack engages with the winder cog.  Then turn the wick down with the winder, ensuring at the same time that the yellow tape on the inside of the wick down not catch on the top of the center tube.

Replace burner basket and lock firmly in position by turning clockwise.  Replace the flame spreader.  Allow the wick to soak for at least an hour before lighting.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR WICK #37A

Remove the flame spreader and burner basket.  Raise the wick as high as it will go, and gently spring apart the two lift arms so the holes in the lift arms are free of the "buttons" on either side of the wick.  Remove the wick by pulling straight up.  Install in reverse order, adhering to the cautions listed above for wick #37.

NOTE THE DIAMETER OF THE HOLES IN THE LIFT ARMS, AS THERE WERE TWO DIFFERENT SIZES USED.  THIS DETERMINES WHICH WICK TO ORDER.  THE ALADDIN BLUE FLAME HEATERS USING THE SMALLER DIAMETER HOLES (LESS THAN 1/4") ALSO HAVE A SLIGHTLY LARGER DIAMETER CENTRAL AIR PILLAR, SO THE WICKS ARE NOT READILY INTERCHANGEABLE.
