*National OS-262C and the Panasonic OS26
They are functionally identical vintage kerosene heaters manufactured by the same parent company, Matsushita Electric (later officially named Panasonic).
Here is what you need to know about how they relate:
  • Same Parent Brand: "National" was the primary brand name used by Matsushita for home appliances inside Japan and select international markets. The "Panasonic" name was used for export markets like North America.
  • Interchangeable Parts: The National OS-262C and the Panasonic OS-26 series share the exact same internal architecture, meaning they utilize the same replacement fiberglass wicks and mechanical parts.
  • Model Number Suffixes: The suffix letters (like the "2C" in OS-262C or "X/XB" in various Panasonic OS-26 variants) generally denote the specific model year, slight cosmetic variations (such as casing color), or minor safety trigger updates required by different regional testing authorities. [1, 2, 3, 4]
If you are buying replacement parts, searching for Panasonic Kerosene Heater OS-26 components will give you exact hardware matches for your National OS-262C.

NOTE: If you have an original Panasonic 2-part mechanical wick (#15, #16, #33, #33A. When Panasonic sold the tooling for making the mechanical wicks to a company in South Korea over 25 years ago the Korean company changed the mating surfaces between the top and bottom sections - the two styles of wicks are NOT interchangeable. If you have an original wick you will need a complete new 2 part wick and thereafter can replace only the top portion, #15, #16, #33 or #33A.
