Making a post-type flame spreader requires several different machine tools, including a metal shaper and a lathe. This series of photos was taken as the work progressed by Peter Brickell.
At left, an 18''' Vulcan reproduction flame spreader which was used as a sample for dimensions.  At right is a brand new Vulcan flame spreader, but the story is in getting to that point!  Note that the flame spreader is at the correct height for the Vulcan chimney.
The post is turned on a lathe. A metal shaper was used for the top of the post. The disk is attached to the top of the post. The new flame spreader fits the tube perfectly.
